Theology, Philosophy and Religion (GCSE AQA 8062BA)

Theology, Philosophy and Religion GCSE at King’s Academy Ringmer offers a comprehensive and thought-provoking study of religious beliefs, ethical dilemmas, and philosophical questions that have shaped human understanding and culture. The course encourages students to explore Christianity and Buddhism in depth, alongside thematic studies that address contemporary moral and social issues such as relationships, peace and conflict, and crime and punishment.

Assessment is through two written examinations, each lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. Paper 1 focuses on Religion and Ethics, primarily examining Christian beliefs, practices, and ethical teachings. Paper 2 covers Religion, Peace and Conflict, with a focus on Buddhism and thematic issues. This structure allows students to engage critically with religious doctrines while considering their application to real-world ethical challenges.

Throughout the course, students develop essential skills in critical thinking, empathy, and analytical reasoning. They learn to evaluate different viewpoints, construct coherent arguments, and appreciate the diversity of religious and non-religious perspectives, including Humanist and atheist responses to ethical questions.

It also promotes respect for cultural diversity and prepares students for further academic study in Religious Studies, Philosophy, Ethics, or other humanities subjects.
