Geography (GCSE AQA 8035)
Geography GCSE at King’s Academy Ringmer offers a comprehensive and engaging study of both physical and human geography, designed to develop students’ understanding of the dynamic processes shaping the natural environment and human societies. The course is structured around three written examinations, each assessing different thematic and geographical skills.
The physical geography component covers natural hazards such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and extreme weather, alongside ecosystems and biodiversity, including tropical rainforests and cold environments. Students explore the causes and impacts of these phenomena, developing an appreciation of environmental challenges and sustainability.
Human geography topics include urban issues and challenges, economic development, and resource management. Students investigate the growth of cities, social and economic inequalities, and the impact of globalisation. They also study how economic activities and resource use affect communities and environments worldwide.
Fieldwork is a key element of the course, with students undertaking practical investigations to develop skills in data collection, analysis, and geographical enquiry. This hands-on experience enhances their ability to interpret maps, graphs, and spatial data, fostering critical thinking and decision-making.
Assessment consists of three written exams graded 9–1, covering physical geography, human geography, and geographical skills including fieldwork. The course encourages students to apply their knowledge to real-world issues, understand the interconnections between people and the environment, and consider sustainable solutions.
Studying Geography at Ringmer equips students with valuable analytical, research, and communication skills. It provides a strong foundation for progression to A Level Geography and related fields such as environmental science, urban planning, and international development. The course nurtures curiosity about the world and prepares students to engage thoughtfully with global challenges.
