Student Wellbeing

At King's Academy Ringmer, we take mental health & wellbeing very seriously. We have the Student Wellbeing Ambassador Programme, where up to 35 students are trained to be wellbeing experts & restorative peer mentors (RPM) so that they can support some of our more vulnerable students. We are fully committed to supporting the emotional health & wellbeing of our students & staff and strongly believe that positive mental health is everyone's responsibility & that we all have an important part to play in order to maintain & improve our own & others' mental wellbeing.

Our wellbeing motto is "be yourself". We encourage all our students to be individuals & provide them with the tools & resources to be able to achieve this.

We aim to deliver our programme in the following ways:

  • Universal Support - To meet the needs of all our students through regular assemblies, PSHE lessons, MHEW themes throughout the year (Time to Talk Day) & through the ethos of the school & wider community.
  • Additional Support - Some students may require additional support, which may involve a 1.1 conversation with their tutor or our Mental Health Lead Ms. Beattie. They may need a peer mentor for a short period of time, support from one of our wellbeing ambassadors or one of our small group interventions which are led by our teaching assistants & our Mental Health Leaduntil the matter is resolved.
  • Targeted Support - Some students may need more differentiated support such as 1.1 interventions with our mental health lead, referral to our school nurse, CAMHS or other specific professional support.

OASIS Programme

Ronnie the Therapy Dog

Ronnie is our wonderful therapy dog who joined our school in September 2021. She was surrendered to the RSPCA in March 2021 at 16 weeks old. This is where her true journey began ... Ronnie was rehomed with Miss Beattie our school mental health and emotional wellbeing practitioner.

Due to Ronnie's sweet nature and her love of people, she has begun her role as our therapy dog. Ronnie comes into school three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, greeting our students before lessons begin. Her day involves spending time with students either on a 1:1 basis with Miss Beattie, playing with students during break and lunch times, being available to listen and give support in the way of cuddles. Of course, Ronnie's wellbeing is paramount to her role here, so she has lots of breaks throughout the day when she can relax, chew a toy or nap in our secure Eco building and garden.
