English Language focuses on developing students’ abilities to understand and analyse a wide range of texts, including fiction, non-fiction, and media sources. The course emphasizes reading comprehension, critical thinking, and effective written communication. Students learn to write for different purposes and audiences, mastering narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and transactional writing styles.
English Literature offers an in-depth study of classic and contemporary literary works, including novels, plays, and poetry. Students engage with texts from different periods and genres, exploring themes, character development, and authorial intent. The course encourages analytical thinking and the ability to construct well-supported arguments about literature.
Assessment for both courses is through written exams graded on a 9–1 scale. English Language exams test reading and writing skills through a variety of texts and writing tasks, while English Literature exams assess students’ understanding and analysis of set texts and unseen poetry.
