At King’s Academy Ringmer, we are committed to recognising and celebrating the wide range of fantastic work happening across the school. We have developed a range of achievements to enhance the culture within our context.

Student Achievement
Achievement Points

The most effective reward is often the simplest one – ensuring that all adults recognise and praise positive behaviour immediately through a simple ‘well done’ has a significant impact on a student’s day, their overall experience and the wider culture of success within the academy. For praise to be most effective it needs to be:

  • specific and linked to an achievement or substantial effort;
  • sincere and genuinely expressed with appropriate language and tone;
  • instant – recognising the specific and providing timely positive feedback;
  • personalised using the students’ name;
  • personalised using the student’s name;
  • consistently used in all lessons as a part of our teaching;
  • discreet and private at times when appropriate.

Bronze – 100 achievement points
Silver – 150 achievement points
Gold – 250 achievement points

  • Each form tutor will aim to award at least 1 student with an achievement point during tutor time morning meeting
  • Each class teacher will aim to award at least 3 students within the lesson
  • Each Pastoral Year Leader / Academic Year Leader will aim to award at least 5 students from their year group over the course of the day, including at social times

PROUD #proudtoberingmer

One way of recognising excellent work is through our PROUD Achievement Award.

This initiative highlights and rewards students who consistently demonstrate excellence in key areas of their learning. The PROUD Award celebrates students’ dedication to:

Presentation of work
Resilience
Outstanding effort
Understanding
Drafting and responding to feedback

Each week, students who receive a PROUD Award are celebrated with a postcard home to share their achievements with their families. Every Friday, these students are also invited to the PROUD table, where they receive their reward in recognition of their hard work. To further encourage progress, all students are given a PROUD report card, where they collect signatures from their teachers for each subject. The more signatures students earn, the greater the rewards, motivating them to take pride in their efforts across all areas of school life. This initiative is a key part of our achievement strategy, fostering a culture of high standards and personal growth throughout the school.

Ringmer Raffle Tickets

Raffle tickets are given out to ‘catch’ students showing the school values. Teachers sign these and give them to students, who return to their tutor. The tutor puts these in the raffle box in the staff room. Tickets are drawn live in assemblies and receive prizes below. These can be awarded in class, but are an important mechanism to promote positive outside class behaviour.

Prizes include

  • £5 Amazon Voucher
  • Skip the lunch queue ticket
  • Principals' call home
  • Values badge for 3 student encompassing these each half term.

Principal’s ‘Excellence’ Awards

Principal’s awards highlight the importance of excellence, both within student work and character

Principal’s Platinum Award for Excellence.

As part of the schools ‘Excellence Strategy’ staff regularly meet within individual departments to showcase students' work that has demonstrated excellence. From these departmental showcases staff will nominate the most deserving for the Principal’s Platinum Award For Excellence. Only a small number of students will receive this award during the academic year and therefore this is considered one of the most prestigious honours to achieve at the school. All recipients of this award receive an ‘Excellence’ gold badge which they wear on the lapels of their blazers; they feature in the schools ‘Journey to Excellence’ Magazine and are invited to the Principal’s Roundtable (where they discuss their work and the reasons for their award with the Headteacher).

Headteachers Platinum Award for Community

Every term we like to recognise and celebrate those who make our community what it is.  A google form is used to nominate a peer (student to student or adult to adult), adults can nominate students and students can nominate any adult.  The Principal will decide who is most deserving of this award, a student who has encompassed both the school values and shown excellence within our school community. Everyone who receives a nomination receives a personalised copy of why they were nominated, irrespective of whether they are selected as a winner. One Headteachers Platinum Award for Community is awarded per term for student sand staff members.

House badges

House Badges are awarded to recognise achievements and instil house ethos.

Achievement Postcards

Subject teachers and Tutors are able to use these postcards to send home directly. This reward system raises the profile of exemplary artwork and student participation at events.

Celebration Assemblies

Termly assemblies are held to celebrate the attainment, progress, attendance and achievements both within and outside the academy of students.

Leavers Awards

Leavers awards are presented to Year 11 leavers at a special evening event. These awards also recognise both attainment and achievement and reflect the academy's ethos of ‘in pursuit of excellence’.
