KAR Weekly Newsletter 10/09/21

This week's message from Principal, Mrs Williams 10/09/21

Welcome Back

We have had an excellent first week back at King’s. We flew through the testing with a high proportion  of students participating and uneventful results. It is much better now that the tests are just nasal testing only. We have taken delivery of the home kits and will be sending those out to you next week. Thank you to all of the families who have supported our first line of defense against Covid. The students have adapted to the one way systems and are diligently using the hand sanitisers. We did have to issue a lot of disposable masks for assembly so if you could support your son/daughter in having a mask on their person for assemblies, that would be most appreciated, (Thursdays).

The students look extremely smart and have returned to school with an excellent attitude to learning. I am so delighted to see so many students keen to soak up the skills and knowledge they may have missed during the pandemic.

Our Year 11s have started preparing for exams this week with their English speaking assessment. Once again I am delighted by the hard work and attention to detail I see from them. The subjects they are speaking about range from farming to football and concerns about County Lines. They are a very impressive group of young people.

National TA Day 16th September

This Thursday is National Teaching Assistant Day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank not only KAR TAs but all the incredible TAs out there who work tirelessly to support students and teachers; you have our gratitude. If you know of a TA at KAR that you would like to thank, this week would be the perfect opportunity to do so; you can email ringmer.reception@kingacademies.uk  with your message.

English Department - Year 10 GCSE English Literature

Thank you to those who have already paid for the English Literature books for this year's course.  The payment is set up on ParentPay and we will need to place an order by 17th September to ensure the texts arrive on time.

Maths Department

The Maths Department will soon be starting the puzzle and board games club.  This will be on a Wednesday lunchtime.  The games are focused on problem solving.  Initially, we will only have a few games to play starting with "The genius square and star"

If you have any game you could donate that focuses on stretching the mind, they would be greatly appreciated.  Just contact your friendly Maths teacher.

Safeguarding focus

Important message from the ESCC SLES Safeguarding Team

We have been alerted to a safeguarding concern regarding Hurstpierpoint Gymnastics Club which is not affiliated with the National Governing Body, British Gymnastics. The club’s website indicates they take children from schools within East Sussex. This is a reminder for parents of the importance to check that external sports clubs are affiliated with the National Governing Body before enrolling your children and that safeguarding information such as name and contact details of the Club Welfare Officer and links to safeguarding policies are displayed clearly on any website.

Kind regards

Sian Williams
