KAR Weekly Newsletter 17/06/21

KAR Weekly Newsletter from our Principal, Mrs Williams.

There was disappointing news for the academy and the whole country this week, meaning that we have had to put some events on hold or even cancel them. However, I am mindful that we have always had a robust response to Covid and therefore, in order to keep our community safe, I will continue to follow the guidance. We are looking forward to a couple of enrichment days in a week’s time and these are all Covid compliant. We all deserve some fun activities this term and I am hoping we can have a fabulous Sports Day too. Details of this below:

Year 11 Prom

Following the recent announcement on the 21st of June, it is with great sadness that we have had to cancel the Year 11 Prom. The date we had booked is now before the final relaxing of lockdown and the venue has no later dates available. We have also reached out to other venues but it is just too short notice. We are going to look to rearrange something in November around the time of the Presentation Evening.

Activities Week – Monday 28 June and Tuesday 29 June 2021 only

If you have not already done so, can you please fill out the Google form by Monday 21st June at the latest.  All the external visits are full and we now have a waiting list.

Geography Department – Monday 21st June - GCSE Geography fieldwork visit

This visit to Brighton to investigate their coastal management is going ahead. It is expected that all GCSE Geography students will attend as this content is assessed (if exams go ahead) in their paper 3 GCSE exam. Please can you read the letter sent out to parents and make sure that payments reach the school by Friday 18th June. Please get in touch if you have any questions.  Ms C Cardin - Subject Leader for Geography

  1. FAME Jr. 2020

We have been holding out as long as possible to see if we can resume live performances in school. Unfortunately, at the moment we are unsure as to when that can be. We are aware that some of you paid for tickets to come and see FAME Jr. (April 2020) so we would like to ensure that you are refunded for these tickets. Please could you or your child return the tickets in a named envelope to reception and we will process a refund for you. Should you have any questions, please contact Miss Williams - hannah.williams@kingsacademies.uk

  1. Dance Club

There will be an after-school Dance club starting Thursday after school from the 23rd June until 4:30 pm. This is an open club to all students, boys and girls.

If you have any further questions, please speak to Miss Williams

Year 11 Leavers Assembly

We will still be going ahead, even if it is slightly downscaled. Please can students bring in their locker key when they attend the Year 11 Leavers Assembly on 23 June 2021. If students can make sure their lockers are empty before they hand the key back please and we will refund the locker deposit to the students. If a student has "lost" their key we will deduct £3 for a replacement key from the refund money due.  Thanks in advance, Finance Team

Safer Streets Funding Consultation

From Sussex Police ... following a Violence Against Women and Girls meeting, Secondary schools are being approached to ask girls how safe they feel out in their community and what Sussex Police could do to make them feel safer.

If our female students could follow the link below and complete a short survey this would be much appreciated - https://www.sussex-pcc.gov.uk/get-involved/events-surveys/safer-streets-funding-consultation/

Kind regards
