Attendance

Attendance is sitting consistently at just below 94% which is good news for this time of year. As always thank you for your continued support.

This week

This week we saw 2 important events in the school.
Remembrance this Wednesday was beautifully marked.  Our students in Year 7 and 8 created our own
Remembrance Tree and at 11am, on Wednesday, despite it being breaktime for some
of our students, the cannons from Lewes Castle marked a 2-minute silence where all
our students and staff stood and reflected and remembered.  I was so very, very proud of them.  It was extremely moving.

Tomorrow, Friday 13 November is Children in Need and as I said in my letter we are sad that we cannot have more events but would like to collect some money with a “come as yourself” non-uniform day.  Please be mindful that hair colourings, hoodies, make-up and jewellery rules still apply.

After School Clubs

Recent Government guidance has confirmed that after school clubs can now restart.

KS4 English Independent Revision Sessions

These after school sessions will now be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays in S03 until 4.30pm.  Students will be supervised and supported with their independent revision.

New 3G Pitch

The new 3G pitch is now available to students in Year 10 and 11 to play sports at lunchtime, on
the following days:  Week A (Mon, Tues, Wed and Fri), week B (Tues, Fri).  Students need to be sure to have the correct footwear (astro, moulded, blades or studs) to use the pitch.

Students in Years 7-9 have the opportunity to play sports on the tennis courts at lunchtime on selected days.

Get the Ball Rolling –

Ringmer AFC

Please see attached letter and poster at the bottom of the page, offering football coaching for girls only aged from 8 to 16 years at Ringmer AFC starting on Monday 9 November 2020.

KAR Virtual Winter Performance

Even though we are limited in the activities that we can do with restrictions in place at the moment, there is still lots of music being made here at Kings Academy! We would like to celebrate this by compiling a Winter Performance video that we can share on Youtube before the holidays. If your child would like to record themselves singing or playing to be included in the video then please email the video to me at francesca.urquhart@kingsacadmies.uk

The music they perform could be Christmassy or seasonal or just something they love and have been learning recently!
All those who participate will be awarded achievement points which will go towards their house totals before the end of this term.

if you have any questions you can email me directly. Many thanks, Ms F Urquhart

House System

This reminds me to let you know that the new house system is up and running.  This week, we allocated all the students to their new house and asked them to participate in an art competition to design
their house logo.  Please do ask them all about this and encourage any budding artists out there to participate.

Dining Room – Parentpay

Please can you ensure that you are regularly checking your Parentpay accounts so that students have sufficient funds in order to purchase food at break and lunchtimes.  Your assistance with this is
greatly appreciated.

Safeguarding Focus

There has been a recent survey of young people and online activities which makes very interesting
reading.  The report can be found here: https://www.internetmatters.org/about-us/in-their-own-words-2019-cybersurvey-research-report/

One of the comments on the survey was that “Parents could talk more to their children about online life in general, rather than only when giving advice”

Online activity will never go away so let's try making it a positive experience.
I know how often my own children used to say ”here we go again…”.

Have a great weekend

Kind regards
