KAR Newsletter - 15/12/2023

Dear parents and carers,

As we approach the holiday, I would like to take this opportunity to say a BIG thank you to our parents and carers for all the support and help this term. Having now completed my first term, I continue to emphasise how important it is to me that we work together to support our young people; the team and I are truly grateful for the partnerships we have built up with our parents and carers. The term has given me some time and reflection to review all areas of the school, and I will be in touch with all stakeholders next term about the strategic direction to move this school forward even further.

Everything I have seen this term has reinforced to me what a great privilege it is to serve as Principal of this school. This term has been packed with activities, visitors into school, educational visits and numerous events such as our Winter Showcase. This has all been in addition to our staff and children working extremely hard to cover the national curriculum and to ensure our children all fulfil their potential on their ‘journey to excellence’.

With our growing reputation, our school continues to grow with an additional 64 students since the previous academic year, which is a wonderful compliment and testimony to all involved in the school.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the school who work hard so that your child can achieve and reach their potential. Their good humour and energy is an inspiration in a time where education faces considerable challenges.

We say goodbye today to Ms Hunnisett, Ms Willis and Mr Wood, and wish them all the best in their future endeavours. In January, we look forward to welcoming Mr Maund (English), Ms Kain and Ms Stimpson (Pastoral Support) and Ms Thompson (Marketing, Admissions and Transition). Due to these staffing changes, please note that there have been some timetable changes. Students affected will receive new timetables today, and parents are encouraged to check Edulink to see any changes.

From all of us here at King’s Academy Ringmer, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

The team and I look forward to working with you in 2024, and look forward to seeing our students back on Tuesday 2nd January.

Best wishes,

Mr Harvey

Principal

  1. Winter Showcase 2023

85 students + 60 hours ensemble rehearsals + lots of solo practice = 1 Winter Showcase + 250 audience members + £400 raised for charity and music and audio equipment for our students.

It was such a pleasure to welcome so many parents and friends to our Winter Showcase last week celebrating the achievements of our students in Dance and Music over the past few months. While we experienced some technical hitches it was such a treat to see so many brilliant performances and to celebrate the hard work and commitment of all those involved.

Thanks to Mrs Taylor organising and managing refreshments we managed to raise around £400 of which £150 will be donated to the Off the Fence Winter Appeal 'Stepping in Not Stepping Over'. The rest will be put towards improving our technical provision so that we can enable our students to perform with professional standard equipment.

  1. Carol Singing at Ringmer Village Hall

On Wednesday 13th December, 35 students in the Kings Academy Choir visited the local community to sing carols for their coffee morning. We were given a warm welcome and the students represented the school brilliantly. They sang so well and provided a good trailer for our production of Matilda which will be happening in the summer.

The 29A journey, which currently departs from Heathfield High Street at 07:18, will run 12 minutes earlier. A few King’s Academy students use this journey and transfer at Uckfield bus station to service 29B, which they will continue to be able to do. The 29B departure times from Uckfield and Halland will be unchanged but it will no longer serve Broyle estate.

Full timetable information will be published on Brighton & Hove Buses’ website in the coming weeks, www.buses.co.uk

It is expected that these bus timetable alterations will result in a very marked improvement in service punctuality, so addressing the issues you have understandably highlighted.

King’s Academy Ringmer are working with Chartwells to trial and test interventions across our catering operations to help reduce and manage our waste. The most effective and impactful interventions will then be introduced at scale across other schools.
