Recruiting for Year 8/9/10/11 Peer Mentors!

Music News - Summer Performing Arts Showcase 2023

On Wednesday 21 June, around 65 students from Year 7 to 10 took part in our Summer Showcase including large scale dance performances as well as solos and small groups, plus music soloists, trios, the cello ensemble and our choir and band.

The hall was packed with family, friends and students who came to support and enjoy the amazing performances which included "Collision" Kings Academy's 2023 Let's Dance entry as well as many inspiring solo performances and small groups, most of which had been choreographed by the students.

The range of musical numbers showed off the individual and group talents of our students, including a brilliant performance of Skyfall, several beautiful solos and a moving performance of Fix You by the choir. The band closed the evening with a mash-up of Sweet Dream (are made of this) with Seven Nation Army.

We're incredibly grateful for the generosity of our school community who raised £350 to support the repair and purchase of musical instruments which are used on a daily basis by Year 7-9 in the music lessons. This will also enable us to explore possibilities for running a school musical next year!

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff that helped make this happen: Mr Brown (site team), Mrs Taylor and Mrs Budd for the refreshments, the Finance Team plus teaching staff for supporting our rehearsals.

We also want to acknowledge and congratulate all our student performers for their hard work in rehearsing and preparing their performances. As well as for taking the risk with us to get up and perform - we know it isn't easy to do and we really congratulate you for having the courage to do this and building the resilience to do this. We really hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Thanks also to our budding 'Tech Crew' who managed the lighting and sound brilliantly!

ECO News

Firstly, a massive thank you to the very kind person who donated a bag full of pine cones for our Eco Day next week during enrichment week.  We will be putting these to great use making bug houses.  Thank you again.

A second massive thank you to Mrs Hayman, who kindly donated 3 veg trugs to the school for our greenhouse, we've got one set up and have some coriander, basil and parsley sown and are hoping we might get some through before the end of term.   A third massive thank you to Mrs Smith for donating the seeds - we really appreciate everything that is donated.  It's great to have the veg trugs in place now, so next spring we can get organised in time and get a better harvest from the greenhouse.

I've also attached some pictures of how the greenhouse is doing and the tomatoes and courgettes/squashes that are growing really well. The Eco Reps have been taking it in turns to water the greenhouse and look after the plants together with Mrs Colbourne.

The Eco Reps have also been helping with spot watering the Eco Hub garden using watering cans to keep our trees alive, hopefully get the wildflower seeds to germinate and also look after our sunflowers we planted out in the last couple of weeks.

Next week we have our Eco Enrichment Day and lots of activities will be happening in the Eco Hub.  We're really excited to work with the students and make some progress with the Eco Hub garden.

Thank you once again to all of the kind donations.  Best wishes, Mrs Teague
