KAR Newsletter - 23/06/2023

Year 11 last day!

Today, we said goodbye to our wonderful year 11 group. They were sent off with the traditional shirt signing from staff and students, handed back their locker keys and took a trip back over the last 5 years looking at old photos from their journey here at KAR. Finally, they were all treated and surprised with an ice cream in the car park. They leave with the values that our school culture has given them. We will all miss them very much and wish them all the best for the future.

Final Arrangements for Enrichment Week
Every student has now been emailed (to their school email account) their daily choices for Enrichment week.  If they have not already checked this for accuracy, please encourage them to do so.  They should speak to their Tutor if they haven't managed to access it or if they think something is wrong.

The final event details, including where and when to meet, what to wear and who the lead teacher of each activity is, will be sent out by the end of this week - this will be emailed to parents, students and put on students' Google Classroom page.

If your child receives free school meals and is on an activity off the school site, they should pick up their lunch from the canteen in the morning to take with them.  Please ensure they have a suitable water bottle to fill up and take with them for the day.

Sports day charity face paint stall

There will be a charity stall with a few of our year 7 painting the colours of each house onto students faces on Sports Day next Thursday. If your child would like to have their house colour painted onto their face, please could they bring in some coins. All monies raised will be donated to Raystede.

Year 10 Work Experience

Almost all of our students have been allocated a work experience placement of their choice for the week commencing 3rd July.  We are really pleased with the range of opportunities that have been on offer and the initiative shown by so many students who found their own placements and have already contacted the employers to introduce themselves.  Please encourage your child to do this as soon as possible if they haven't already.

Many schools across the country have not been able to run work experience this year, or are only providing 2 or 3 days, so we are proud that our Year 10 students are getting this invaluable opportunity and know that the vast majority of them will benefit hugely as a result.

Please encourage them to be brave and determined in undertaking an experience that might feel difficult for the first day or two, as building this resilience is all part of the process.

If you have any questions in the run up to Work Experience week, please contact Ms Hunnisett.  Mrs Loney will be coordinating the visits and checks once the week is underway.

Student wellbeing ambassadors / peer mentors needed in year 8, 9, 10 and 11

Is your child Kind, caring and confident? Are they reliable, non-judgemental and good at listening?  If so perhaps they would be interested in training to join our fabulous team in school.

They would need to be committed to completing an online training course and attending fortnightly meetings during a tutor time. They will also need to attend a full day of training to support a peer mentoring role.  If they are interested or would like to know more information please ask them to email Miss Beattie at jo.beattie@kingsacademies.uk

Last day of term – 21 July 2023 – early finish at 12.20pm

The school buses will be at school to collect students at 12.15pm with the exception of the 125 bus, route details for the 125 are as below.

125 Bus route - The bus does not cover the school on the route earlier in the day, therefore on the last day of term when we finish at 12.15pm the bus will not be at school to collect the students who would normally catch that bus home.  We have spoken to the bus company and the bus has a stop at the junction of Gote lane and New Road in Ringmer. There is a grassed island and wide verge there where the students can wait for the bus. There is a bus that leaves Lewes at 12.30pm and so the students would have enough time to walk from the school to this stop in time to pick up the bus to get home.  Please note that this lunchtime bus does not run via Berwick Station. The afternoon journey will serve the College as normal.

For further information please see the attached route map and timetable, further bus details can be found on the Compass bus website https://www.compass-travel.co.uk/compass-timetables/bus-timetables/
