KAR Newsletter - 24/02/23

King's Academy Ringmer weekly newsletter 24/02/23

This week's message from our principal, Mrs Williams.

Back to school with a spring in our step. Mocks for Year 11 just around the corner and Senior Student applications happening this week as our Year 10s take on application forms and interviews. As usual, we have had some excellent applications, and it is rewarding to see conversations in the corridors with teacher and student- ‘Have you applied for a senior student role?  … No? …well you should because I think you’d make a great leader!’

Not only do we have the mocks beginning soon,  but this week the year 11 GCSE Food Technology class have been completing their practical exam. With the wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen, there seem to be a lot more staff in that department this week!  I have seen some really impressive work in there and such concentration and dedication.

During half-term, we had a fabulous residential trip in Italy as 46 students went skiing with some dedicated staff. I joined the group for some of the trip and was delighted to have so many reports of good behaviour, enthusiasm and respect for the environment and the people they met. The students were a credit to the school. Mr Coulthard explains further below:

Ski Trip

Over the February half term, we took 46 students and 6 members of staff on the first ski trip for 4 years to Pinzolo in Italy.  The weather was fantastic throughout the trip which led to really enjoyable skiing conditions.  All students made their way to the top of the mountains and the resort throughout the week, which is a massive achievement.  As well as skiing, the group also tried lots of new foods.  For some, they experienced a different culture for the first time. They completed a snow shoe walk, went to a restaurant for Gelato, completed a night time torch lit walk and went Ice Skating.  Lots of fantastic memories, laughter and new experiences for all.  Looking forward to the next one to come.

Safeguarding - Digital Wellbeing

As the Internet becomes more important to us and our children as a social space. It is important to develop a sense of how we can all use it to support our lives, but at the same time to guard against negative influences that exist there. Digital Wellbeing relates to how we can turn the internet into a positive force within our lives, and can aid our mental health. The SWGfL has developed a page designed to raise awareness of Digital Wellbeing and good practice while engaging online. On the page they have an interesting video on the subject, a discussion on the importance of Digital Wellbeing at school and at home.  This is important for parents as well as students, only today. I was in an RE lesson where we were talking about temptation. Scrolling is one of mine!. To take a look at this fascinating page please follow the link below: https://swgfl.org.uk/topics/digital-wellbeing/
