Kindness - Ambition - Resilience 

As you know we have started to work with our new values and I am delighted to say that I have some wonderful examples of all three of our values this week. 

 

Kindness

I would like to thank two students this week who have gone above and beyond in being kind to their peers. Firstly Rowan Sargent in Year 8 who kindly helped a Year 7 on the bus.  The student had lost their ticket and had become very upset, Rowan kindly looked after the Year 7, reassured them and paid for their ticket. Thank you, Rowan!

Secondly, Will Mizon in Year 11 who did not only show great kindness but quick thinking and emotional intelligence, in supporting one of his fellow Year 11s.

Thank you both, we are proud to have you as students at King’s Academy Ringmer.

Work Experience - Year 10

We hope that all of Year 10 are looking forward to work experience from 27th June - 1st July.  A reminder that payments are now due, and can be made via ParentPay. 

 

Routines and Expectations

We would like to thank all our parents and carers for continuing to support us with  our high expectations around behaviour and uniform. One of our expectations is that when students begin their day in school, phones are switched off and remain switched off until 3.20pm.

Unlike many schools, we appreciate that a total ban would be inappropriate and would foster parental concerns around student safety travelling to and from school. However, we must once again ask that if you wish to contact your child that you do this through the school office. There are two key reasons for this, we do not want a student getting their phone out at break and lunch saying I’m just texting my parent/carer - or responding to a call or message from you. 

Secondly, we are able very quickly contact students anywhere in the school if you wish to get a message to them - we also do not wish to encourage students to contact you before us - it puts us in a very difficult position if a parent rings us worried about their son/daughter, and we are not aware of the situation. We want all our students to ‘find an adult in the school’ as quickly as possible, so we can help promptly and face to face.

Resilience - Eco Hub Newsletter

Firstly, a huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers who came in to help on Sat 23rd for our pond dig day! We managed to clear all the raised beds, put in a pond and lots of beautiful plants. There is still lots to be done and this is an ongoing project so the more the merrier regards to help. Thanks to the parents and some teachers who also gave up their time to help. 

Eco hub club meets every Monday Week B in the Eco building. All welcome, see Ms Pillar and Mrs Holmes for details.

                    

                             

Virtual event for students in Year 10 and 11 with an interest in motor vehicles

For those of you interested in high-end motor vehicles.  

On Monday 16th May from 5:00pm - 6:00pm Young Professionals are hosting their first-ever virtual event with luxury British car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover.

Lunchtime Fundraiser for Winston's Wish

On Wednesday 11th May our student ambassadors will be running stalls to raise funds for this very worthy cause. Winston's Wish is a childhood bereavement charity in the UK. The charity offers a wide range of practical support and guidance to bereaved children, their families and professionals.

There will be a cake stall, name the teddy, penalty shootout, guess how many sweets in the jar, decorate a keyring and hopefully a "throw a wet sponge at the teacher"! 

We ask that students bring in small change to take part, nothing bigger than a £1 please.

CLASS+ - Coffee and Chat Sessions are back

An opportunity for parents and carers to explore anything around the theme of Autism.  This coffee and chat is for parents of children that have a diagnosis of Autism or for parents whose children are on the pathway towards a diagnosis.

Safeguarding

We would like to thank all our parents and carers for continuing to support us with  our high expectations around behaviour and uniform. One of our expectations is that when students begin their day in school, phones are switched off and remain switched off until 3.20pm.

Unlike many schools, we appreciate that a total ban would be inappropriate and would foster parental concerns around student safety travelling to and from school. There are four key foci for mobile phones at Ringmer.

Phones must be switched off in lessons as they distract from learning. Studies have shown that an average teenager receives 36 notifications an hour from the various apps that they use. Imagine being interrupted 36 times in an hour when you are trying to learn a new concept.

Also, we must once again ask that if you wish to contact your child that you do this through the school office, we are able very quickly contact students anywhere in the school if you wish to get a message to them.We cannot support a student who has their phone out at break and lunch saying I’m just texting my parent/carer - or responding to a call or message from you. 

Thirdly, we also cannot support the process of your son/daughter contacting you before us, when they have problem in school.  It puts us in a very difficult position if a parent rings us worried about their son/daughter in school, and we are not aware of the situation. We want all our students to ‘find an adult in the school’ as quickly as possible, so we can help promptly and face to face. This is a real safeguarding concern. 

Finally, smartphones are a great asset in many respects, they are also extremely challenging when dealing with social media and online safety. We would like our students to feel safe in school and away from the dangers of online bullying and other inappropriate behaviours. Part of this is education and part of this is - a break from technology during the school day!
