KAR Newsletter - 05/03/2024

Dear parents and carers

I hope you have had a good week.

Super Curriculum - The KAR Experience

As we move towards Easter, I am excited to announce that plans are underway to launch our new ‘Super Curriculum’ (‘The KAR experience’) for all Key Stage 3 students next year. We are planning an innovative enrichment programme, built into the school day on a fortnightly basis to give further opportunities for students outside of their normal curriculum. The intention is that these sessions will be 70 minutes on a Wednesday afternoon, fortnightly and finishing at the normal school time of 3.20. Therefore, this will have no impact on timings of the school day and will be incorporated into their normal curriculum time. Personal Development is central to our school’s ethos. King’s Academy Ringmer’s Super Curriculum (The KAR Experience) is an exciting opportunity for our students to engage in a diverse range of activities beyond the curriculum. We believe that a strong co-curricular experience is essential for nurturing the unique talents, interests, and aspirations of each individual.

The purpose of this is as follows:

  • To create a greater sense of belonging and community within our school.
  • To build further opportunities to promote cultural capital and develop well rounded, confident students who are world ready.
  • To ensure students at KAR are afforded the same opportunities as they would have at a larger school, or within private education.

I am currently surveying staff to review what opportunities we are able to provide internally, and am in touch with some external agencies at this early stage. Put simply, the success of this will depend on the quality of provision, and of course this will need to be built over time. Therefore, I ask parents for any support, advice or contacts you may have that may be able to offer sessions within this time. If this is something you, or someone you know, would be interested in supporting, then please register your interest below via the link. At this stage, I am interested in all activities no matter how niche! We will then review all options and see what is possible:

I am also delighted to announce that we have achieved sporting success this week, with the  Year 8 & 9 girls 7’s rugby team becoming County Champions! The girls participated in a tournament held at Brighton Rugby Club.

The girls won their group games, with the final group game going to the last seconds and a conversion by Edith winning us the game. A close semi-final against a strong Warden Park team was won with the final try being scored by Lily. In a really exciting final against Downlands the final score at full time was 15-15, leading to a golden point score which the girls managed to get through Edith after just 56 seconds to win the tournament.

The team was: Olivia, Lola, Lily, Rose, Pearl, Ava, Edith, Lucy & Molly.

This is a significant achievement, with superb teamwork and sportsmanship shown throughout. We will be celebrating the team next week in school.

Finally, I thank you for your ongoing support on attendance, as we continue to have above average attendance both nationally and locally, which is considerably stronger than this time last year.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

Best wishes,
Mr Harvey
