KAR Newsletter - 24/11/2023

Friday 24 November 2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you have had a good week. I am delighted to report that we raised an excellent £1252.29 for children in need as a result of our non-uniform day last week. This total far exceeded previous amounts raised, a really great effort. There was a fantastic atmosphere in school, and both students and staff very much got into the spirit! Our attendance reached almost 4% above national average this week, a brilliant effort and thank you for doing all you can to ensure children are in school and on time. Simply, high attendance gives them the best chance of success.

Assemblies

Assemblies this week have been led by Vice Principal Mr Burchett on the topic of men's mental health month. As part of our assembly programme, this marks an important time to talk about the mental health of men and how we can reduce stigma, do away with societal expectations and increase the likelihood of support uptake among men.

Parent forum

I was delighted to host our second parent forum this week, and was pleased to see 15 representatives who took the time to raise points of improvement for the school. We discussed a range of topics, part parent led and part school led, as part of a continued push to involve parents in the school. I will work with parents to look at the best ways of detailing this information in due course. Parent engagement and our communication strategy is one of our key school priorities. As part of agenda points raised in the first meeting, we have produced a simple guide to all of our school systems which can be found here: https://www.kgaringmer.uk/attachments/download.asp?file=1939&type=pdf

These are a starting point, and I would welcome any feedback on improvement areas.

Finally, a reminder that school will be closed on Friday 1st December, due to our INSET day for training.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Best wishes,

Mr Harvey, Principal

Safeguarding

We have just been made aware of a new teen craze which we want to share with you.  It is a website called "cloudz.fun".  Children are setting up an account so that people can send them anonymous messages. They are then using their WhatsApp status to invite people to use their link and send them messages completely anonymously.

Please be vigilant regarding this as it could be used as a platform for anonymous bullying.

Children’s Commissioner for England – Dame Rachel De Souza

National Campaign – The Big Ambition Survey

It is really important that the students at King's Academy Ringmer have the opportunity to participate in The Big Ambition survey and have their say.  Children or parents can complete the survey here: www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigambition . Further resources are available on their website.

Dame De Souza wants to ensure that the voices of the children in East Sussex are fairly represented in the findings so that she can share their views with the most senior members of the country.

This is a great opportunity to teach children about politics and why it is important for them to use their voice.
