Year 7 Admissions - apply to join KAR

If you would like to apply for a place to join us in September 2025 you need to apply via East Sussex County Council by 31st October 2024. Please read the information on this page as it provides all key dates and processes for the application phase.

The Year 7 Admissions process

As an Academy, we will continue to be within the coordination of admissions by the Local Authority (LA) East Sussex County Council (ESCC) i.e. the process for allocating school places to children. This means that parents/carers only need to complete one application form (but they can name several schools on it).

  • You will need to create an account with ESCC and select three schools in priority order.  The online form can be completed from September 2024. Parents/Carers must apply to the LA (online) by 31 October. The application form and further information can be found here:
  • Apply via ESCC
  • The LA will then send a list of applicants to all schools by a date agreed in the locally agreed coordination scheme (this is owned by the LA who agrees with all its schools).
  • The Academy then ranks the applicants against its oversubscription criteria (outlined in the school's admissions policy), and then sends a ranked list back to the LA.
  • The LA then coordinates admissions across its schools and with neighbouring authorities and offers parents their highest available preference on 1 March. 
  • After parents receive an offer to KAR, the transition team will begin the transition phase and start the process of contacting parents for student information etc. 
  • If you did not get the school place you wanted, you may want to appeal. As we are an Academy, the school is responsible for setting up an appeals panel and hearing any appeals. If you would like to appeal, please see this page.
  • If you didn't receive an offer for a place at KGA, you may request your child's name be added to the waiting list. Please see this page for information about our waiting lists.

Parents will be informed a minimum of 10 school days prior to the hearing with details of their hearing. If there is additional information to submit, this must be completed 7 working days in advance of the hearing.
