Visit to the battlefields of Ypres

This event will take place between 5:10am and 9:00pm on 25/06/2018

Dear Parent/Carer

The annual History Department visit to the battlefields of Ypres will now take place on MONDAY 25TH JUNE 2018.

The visit will be invaluable to students studying the First World War in Year 9 as part of their GCSE History course. The visit includes tours of the Essex Farm Dressing Station, the Menin Gate in Ypres itself, Tyne Cot cemetery and of course the always popular Leonidas chocolate shop.

Please ensure that your child wears appropriate clothing for the day. We recommend light, warm layers, several pairs of socks, sensible outdoor shoes and a jacket or waterproofs should it rain. It is likely to be very muddy so wellies would be best! We also suggest that students bring a backpack or equivalent with a pair of shoes for the coach and their packed lunch.

As we are now going in June sunscreen and a hat are necessary – we are outdoors for much of the time.

Secondly it is important that your son or daughter has enough food and water or soft drinks (no glass bottles please) for the day. We are leaving very early and returning very late. There won’t be time to stop to buy food for the day.

We would like to remind you that students should bring £10-£15 worth of Euros with them. There may not be the opportunity to change money in France or Belgium so it is important they have it for the day.

It is important that we have your child’s passport and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This needs to be handed in to the Finance Office no later than FRIDAY 8th JUNE  2018. This is simply to ensure that all students have passports, and that they aren’t forgotten on the day.

Finally can I remind you that students need to be at school between 05.10am and 05.15am on Monday 25th June 2018 to leave promptly at 05.30am. We hope to arrive back at school at 21.00. If we are delayed by more than 30 minutes we will ask the students to ring you.

Students are welcome to bring cameras and mobile phones; however these will be their responsibility.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your contribution to this visit and promptness at returning forms and payment. If you have any questions please email me; natalie.moorhouse@kingsacademies.uk

Yours Faithfully,
