The end of term and a sad farewell to our years 11s.  They are outside now signing shirts, shedding tears and thanking their teachers. What a lovely group of young adults they are and we wish them so much love and luck for their future.

I hope you have had the opportunity to read the letter I sent out yesterday about term 6 and share the genuine excitement we feel that we can return to specialist classrooms; the reopening of the Learning Resource Centre and the reintroduction of lunchtime after school clubs. All the elements that make a school more than just a building.

Please keep supporting us with the bi-weekly testing and the use of face coverings on buses and in communal areas.

Music Department

1.    Instrumental and Vocal lessons at Kings Academy Ringmer
We have lots of students trying out new instruments in class at the moment and they are making amazing progress! To make the most of this solid foundation, you could talk to your child about signing up for instrumental or singing lessons here at school.

The lessons are provided by our excellent team of specialist teachers and take place during the school day on a rota. If your child knows a friend they would like to be teamed up within a group then get them to sign up at the same time. If you let me know once you have signed up I can liaise with the teachers to tell them about the groups.

2.    Musical Futures Online
This is now live and all students can access this at home. Students should go to their Google Classroom for Music to find the login details then they can access the full resource bank of play-along including chord charts, tab and keyboard diagrams. Plus, lyrics for karaoke of course!

3.    Virtual Summer Performance
After the success of last summer and the Christmas virtual performance, I will be putting together another virtual performance this summer. The deadline for video submissions will be Friday 2nd July, so please encourage your child to get thinking about whether they'd like to submit a performance no matter how short! We had such a brilliant response last time... half-term would be a good chance for them to get practising or singing along to karaoke backing tracks!

School Nurse Drop-ins

School Nurse drop-in sessions start again on Wednesday 16 June 2021 between 12.50 pm and 1.30 pm.  Please can you let your son/daughter know if they are interested in this service?  Further information is available from Mrs Lockyer.

ParentPay ParentPay account for lunch money

We would appreciate it if parents can keep an eye on your child's balance for lunch and top up payments when needed please. We are having more students asking us to call home to "top-up" their lunch account on ParentPay.

To top up your child's account you need to log into your ParentPay account (details of link are below) and it will show you a balance of your child's account. To top up click on the blue tab that says pay for meals. You then add the amount that you would like to top up the account with and add to the basket. Once you have finished adding items you click on the basket and choose the payment option and complete the purchase. This is then on your child's account usually within a few minutes.

If you haven't set up a ParentPay account yet or have lost the details, please email ringmer.finance@kingsacademies.uk and we will get another letter issued with details of how to set your account up.  Thank you in advance.

Kind regards, Debbie Duckworth - Business Services Manager

Safeguarding focus:

Online Grooming New Campaign (Internet watch Foundation)
One of the videos I used to use in CPD sessions about online safety was called 'Where's Klaus?' (You can find it on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4GKXsAOYZE In it, a series of (unsuitable) people turn up at Klaus' house and his mum let's them in. The end of the video is perhaps the most disturbing of all.
A new IWF safety campaign aims to help parents have conversations with their children about keeping their 'door' closed to child sexual abusers. The campaign includes a booklet for parents, explaining the risks, explaining why children are vulnerable, and suggests practice steps that parents can take.

The mnemonic used in the campaign is TALK:

  • TALK to your child about online sexual abuse. Start the conversation – and listen to their concerns.
  • AGREE ground rules about the way you use technology as a family.
  • LEARN about the platforms and apps your child loves. Take an interest in their online life.
  • KNOW how to use tools, apps and settings that can help to keep your child safe online.

Kind regards
