Making a Band project

All our Key Stage 3 classes are now working on their band projects. Students are really enthusiastic about this project and we have lots of students coming to use the practice rooms at lunchtime to continue with their music.

If your child wants to continue with their music at home they can access the website at the following link. Students can find the login details in Google Classroom.

https://www.musicalfuturesonline.org/my-account/

They will have an opportunity to share their work in class and - if they want to - work towards the Battle of the Bands which will be happening in June in the week before Activities Week.

University of Edinburgh Research

We are researchers in the School of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. We are conducting research to understand mental health and puberty in girls as they transition into adolescence and transition to secondary school.

The project is called The Transition to Teenager in Girls Project.

See flyer to girls aged 11-13 ½ (see here).

Findings from this study will be used to create booklets for parents/guardians and school staff to support well-being in girls during the transition to secondary school and adolescence. This project has been open since September. Girls have been letting me know they enjoy taking part. We designed the project with stakeholders to make it as easy as possible to take part and enjoyable. The project has been getting positive feedback at conferences too.

What do the girls do?

  • Girls will be asked to do two 30 minute meetings over 1 year. In these meetings, they will answer questions by ticking boxes about mental health, social relationships, and menstruation (periods).

  • Parents will complete questionnaires about their daughter (25 minutes)

We want all girls to take part including neurodivergent girls (autistic girls, girls with ADHD, or girls with dyspraxia or on a waiting list for an assessment).

Please let us know if you’d like more information or happy to arrange a zoom call to discuss anytime.

Checks: This study has been reviewed and given a favourable ethical opinion by an independent research committee the Edinburgh Medical School Research Ethics Committee. The study is being sponsored by the University of Edinburgh. I have a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service Check.

Thank you for your time

Safeguarding

NHS Workshops

Please see the poster below promoting a free learning event, organised by our Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in May, which is open to all parents and carers of young people in Sussex. The mental health workshops, all led by experienced CAMHS clinicians takes place virtually on Tuesday 16 May with three different start times; 9.30am, 12.30pm and 7pm, making it as easy as possible for people to attend, depending on their lifestyle. Parents may choose to join all three session in order to maximise workshop attendance. The sessions will cover five workshops focusing on:

• Anxiety

• Sleep

• Managing self-harm and suicidal thoughts

• Autistic Spectrum Conditions and challenging behaviour

• Eating disorders

Parents and carers will have the choice of which workshop to attend, with recordings of any others being made available afterwards. The session lasts 90 minutes with the opportunity to ask any questions to CAMHS clinicians. Due to anticipated high numbers of attendees any questions will need to be sent in advance. Any family that attends will also get a digital pack of useful resources and information.
