We are almost there with the Year 11 first round of Mocks and I have to again say how impressed I am with their attitude to study. They should be very proud of themselves. A thank you goes out to all the staff who, wherever I turn, are offering last minute revision help and tackling piles of marking. Students and staff will be able to let their hair down a bit Friday for our Children in Need event. There will be lots of events at break and lunch so bring a bit of extra cash. There will also be the opportunity for parents to contribute directly to us via Parentpay if you would prefer your child not to bring cash into school. Although they will have to pay for cakes and participatory events such as Mr Wood's Penalty Shoot-out, Mr Moffat's Conker Championship, Ms Urquhart's House Boombastic and the Bake Sale on the day with cash! 

 

142 Bus

We are very much aware that the 142 bus is extremely busy and staff, parents and students have expressed their concerns about safety. We have contacted the bus company ourselves on several occasions and asked them to address this as a priority. They have assured us they will, however if you wish to write to ESCC to support us it would add weight to our concerns. 

 

Amazing News – DfE Sustainability Award 

The Education Estates Department for Education Sustainability Award was presented by Mrs Williams to the KS3 students at morning assembly on Wednesday 9 November and the KS4 on Thursday (we have to have separate assemblies now as we are so big).  Luke O'Sullivan accepted the award on behalf of King's Academy Ringmer's Eco Reps LS4 and Fraser Hammond for KS4. We thanked them and all the Eco Reps for all their hard work, passion and efforts that have helped lead us to winning the award. Mrs Williams spoke to the students about how it's their commitment to the environment, led by the projects and work they feel need to be tackled, that has been key to the school winning the award, and they should feel as proud of their efforts as we do.

King's Academy Ringmer are now running a SEND clinic for parents/carers with children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities. The 20-minute slots will be with Mrs Malik, SENCO, and will be face to face meetings. PE News

• Unfortunately, with the weather turning and the clocks changing we have had a number of fixtures cancelled for circumstances beyond our control.  We are doing the best we can to ensure that these fixtures will be rearranged as soon as possible.

• Lesson News - With the weather changing we will always do our best to be outside for our timetabled lessons.  We have noticed that a number of students are not coming prepared for lessons, in wearing the appropriate clothing.  To keep warm students are able to wear Under Armour/skins under their kits as well as being encouraged to wear the school PE fleeces, unfortunately we do not allow hooded tops of any sort for safety reasons in lessons.

• We have a limited amount of spare kit for lessons, can I please ask if you have any issues with purchasing/providing kit then can you please contact me directly at james.coulthard@kingsacademies.uk

• Please can you ensure that your son/daughter’s PE kit is labelled with their name, as this will make the return of the kit much easier should it be left/misplaced.

 

Gardening Morning

Unfortunately, the 12th November gardening morning has had to be postponed, due to unforeseen circumstances.  Mrs Teague is working on a new date and will confirm this as soon as possible.  She sends her apologies to the Eco Reps and will keep everyone informed on the new date.

 

Eco News

Safeguarding - Coerced online child sexual abuse - Help for parents (UK Safer Internet Centre) 

The UKSIC report that more than a quarter of girls who took part in their survey have had some kind of experience of receiving a request for nude or semi-nude photos or videos.

Children can be groomed, coerced or encouraged into sexual activities online. Any child with unsupervised access to the internet is potentially at risk.
