So exams are upon us; a landmark moment for us all. So far so good, the Year 11 students are calm, focussed and committed. Meanwhile, the weather has improved, and we are making full use of the field. Students are already telling me ‘it's boiling!’ and asking for summer uniform. So as I say every year, after half-term I will review the weather and decide on a date for summer uniform. This means no jumpers and blazers are optional. I will keep you posted. You will also see in this newsletter the ‘early bird’ information from Sussex Uniforms for the autumn term. 

Finally, we are just putting the finishing touches on the plans for Enrichment days, which will be 27th-29th of June. There will be opportunities for trips out in Year 8 and 9, and we will let you know as soon as they become live on Parent Pay. We are planning a range of fun activities for students in school including some all day outdoor events. Don’t you just love the summer and the opportunities it brings?

 

Debate Club

The Debate Club has continued to meet this term.  Recent debates have been 'This House believes that....

• Animals should have the same rights as humans

• The UK should pay compensation to its former slave colonies

• You should NEVER get a tattoo

Fabulous feel good fundraiser for Winston's Wish.

What a fun lunchtime on May 11th.  Our student ambassadors were amazing, they organised and ran stalls selling cakes, cookies and cheese straws, guess the name of the teddy, how many treats in the jars, decorate your own keyrings, how many sweets in the jar and of course the very popular "sponge the teacher". £156.62 was raised on the day which is fantastic, and we still have donations from staff coming in so this amount is growing.

I would like to thank the truly wonderful members of staff who put themselves in the line of fire on a rather chilly day to get well and truly soaked by a very large crowd of eager students.

Year 7 Beat Goes on Workshops!

I am pleased to let you know that Year 7 will be taking part in their postponed workshops from February. This will happen on Wednesday 8th June. Each class will come out of one lesson then join together for a sharing session during the last lesson of the day.

We are so lucky to be welcoming Ollie Tunmer back to the school after his successful work with Year 8. Ollie was a member of Stomp and the Lost and Found Orchestra and now runs Beat Goes On. Check out his amazing work at https://www.beatgoeson.co.uk/

This is back on on Wednesday lunchtimes - come along and suggest your songs for everyone to sing along to!

Summer Showcase - date for your diary!

We are really looking forward to hosting our first live performance in school on Tuesday 12th July for our Summer Showcase. We are looking forward to having lots of performances from both individuals and bands as well as our two singing groups and school band! Students who want to get involved should fill in the Google Form that is advertised in Google Classroom. Come and see me if you have any questions.

Eco hub news

“No Mow May” has started across the country and here at KAR we have put our blue hearts up to show where we are going to let the landscape run wild! The Eco Reps had a great time putting all the hearts up and scattering wildflower seed in readiness.

We have also been busy planting more plants in the Eco hub garden, there are lots of plants that will attract pollinators and the whole garden will be buzzing.

The bird table has turned into Piccadilly Circus with all different types of birds turning up. The science department will be gathering data from our wildlife capture camera and incorporating it into the curriculum.

To become an Eco Rep come along on a Monday lunchtime week B - everyone is welcome.

Sussex Uniforms - Early Bird offer

Festival Safety 

Soon, many older teenagers will be packing their pop-ups tents and wellies for a high-old time at their first festival. For most, their weekend will be exciting and eventful. For others, it may be memorable for the wrong reasons.
