We are celebrating this week getting our mojo back. Our first ‘event’ in school World Book Day. We had so many wonderful costumes and there was such a lovely buzz about the school. Special thanks go out to Mrs Hunnisett and the English department for coordinating it and also providing us with a gothic twist to the day!

Coming up next is Comic Relief or Red Nose Day on Friday 18th March. The senior students are keen that this will be our best charity event so far and are looking for lots of support and participation. It will include: Dress in Red Day (no hair dye!), bake sales, inter mentor bunting competition and my favourite, Pin the Red Nose on the Teacher- I am not sure if that is live or not... but it will certainly be fun!

Celebrating Pancake Day in Food Technology
First whole year group school trip for a while – Year 9
The BIG Futures Show – Eastbourne Sports Park
Tuesday 26 April 2022 (9.30am – 4.00pm)
It seems like a long time ago, but once upon a time, students went on school trips and one of the biggest, best and most important for their future was the whole of year 9 school trip to The BIG Futures Show! Well things are getting back to normal and after two years of cancellations, the show is back on!
The BIG Futures Show (BFS) is the largest employability, skills and jobs event in East Sussex for students aged 14 plus, organised by Eastbourne Education Business Partnership in association with Eastbourne Borough Council. It is also open to parents, carers and anyone looking for work or training.
The event will be attended by over 80 exhibitors including colleges, training providers and businesses from a broad range of sectors, who will provide information about careers and available opportunities. Students will be able to take part in interactive tasks and find out about the skills, qualities and entry requirements for a range of professions.
They will also be provided with a Show Guide in advance of the day and will take part in preparation activities in school to help them to gain the maximum benefit from attending BFS.
Students will be able to find out about the careers that currently interest them and about jobs that they didn’t know existed. They will be able to talk directly to employers and ask questions, as well as meeting representatives from local colleges and training providers to discuss their next steps in further and higher education.

Independent learning club
We currently have space after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to offer support with independent learning tasks. This takes place in learning support running from 3.20pm - 4.30pm Monday - Thursday and until 4pm on Friday.

Eco Hub News
As our school community is getting back to some sort of normality we now have our Eco hub meetings every Monday Week B in the Eco hut. Bring your lunch and a friend. Our order for 5 recycled plastic picnic benches has gone in, so we will be able to sit outside when the weather gets warmer and enjoy the fruits of our labours. Don't forget Saturday 26 March is our day for digging the new pond, planting some trees and plants and generally getting together to socialise. Focus 10k (5k & Mini Mile) for Chailey Heritage Foundation
Chailey Heritage Foundation are organising a flagship event: the Focus 10k, on Sunday 22 May 2022. They would love to have some of our students run with them on our brand new course. Full details are below.
A run for everyone!
The Focus 10k (5k & Mini Mile) is back at an exciting new venue. This is Chailey Heritage Foundation’s most important fundraising event of the year, taking place at Sutton Hall Estate, East Sussex on Sunday 22 May, with a 10k, 5k and a Mini Mile.
Nestled in the beautiful countryside between Newick and Barcombe, it provides a unique opportunity for Focus 10k participants to run on a brand-new course. The off-road 5k course follows existing tracks that flow alongside the River Ouse, past a variety of tree plantations, through stunning woodland and across open countryside. There are some modest hills, leading to a total elevation of less than 40m across the course. The start and finish are situated in the race village and the 10k entrants will get boosted by the crowds as they loop round to start their second lap.

HPV Vaccinations deadline 11am Tuesday 8th March
The vaccinations are taking place on Friday 11th March for Year 8s and students from years 9-11 who may have missed it, but the deadline to complete the online consent form to say if you DO or DO NOT give consent is 11am on Tuesday 8th March.

St Mary’s Church Ringmer
Members of Friday Club (our young people’s group) at St Mary’s Church have decided to raise money for Raystede with a toy and bake sale on Saturday 26 March – details attached.
Please come along and support them. There will also be a collection for the Ukraine appeal.

JOB TITLE: Cleaning Operative

HOURS: Monday – Friday, 3:3—6:30pm
SALARY: £9.50 per hour – paid 2 weekly
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Cleaning experience not essential
Cleaning Op Key responsibilities:
Uniform provided & training provided
To undertake general cleaning duties to the prescribed standards as detailed in the site specification including:
- Cleaning interior surfaces, furnishings, fixtures and fittings
- Clean floors and floor coverings
- Maintain the internal environment
- Service toilet areas; clean all toilet appliances i.e. toilets, sinks etc. and replenish customer supplies ie. toilet rolls
- To clear and remove rubbish and other items from areas as detailed by the site specification and ensure the security of all areas at completion of duties.
- To maintain stocks of cleaning materials, order from suppliers where required and to control the usage of materials ensuring the cleaning cupboard is kept tidy at all times.
- To report any problems on-site to the supervisor/account manager so they may be rectified immediately.
- To undertake any other reasonable duties/requests commensurate with this position as designated by the account manager/supervisor/client/company

Ringmer Dramatic Society
Please find attached the poster below, for Ringmer Dramatic Society’s forthcoming production of Janet Green’s crime thriller ‘Murder Mistaken’. All are welcome!
May I also give you advance notice of our November production, a musical version of Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s story ‘Alice in Wonderland’ adapted by Mike Carter of Earwig Productions who says, “This adaptation draws out all the humour and magic of the original story and creates an exciting and challenging musical with plenty of audience involvement and participation.” There are 24 speaking and singing characters all of whom, except Alice, are quite mad.

Safeguarding
Keeping Children Safe: GRT pupils
Outcomes data shows that GRT pupils are vulnerable to underachievement, therefore it is essential that they are supported to access full time education. ISEND Teaching and Learning Provision have co-produced The Stopping Place website with national charities, Traveller stakeholders and community members. It provides information, advice, guidance and training for both GRT families and professionals. The website offers resources and positively promotes an understanding of the GRT community with a focus on education.
