KAR Weekly Newsletter 05/11/2021

This week's message from Principal, Mrs Williams.

So I am writing this from my home as I sit in splendid isolation in my bedroom. I feel somewhat like a fraud as I have very few symptoms but still Mr Williams has to bring me everything and leave it outside the door. I am also appreciating the irony of how sensible and careful we have all been in school and so I manage to contract Covid during half term!

I am not sure at all how or where, but suffice to say that being careful and following the guidelines is still the way forward. Mr Williams and myself still wear our masks in public so I think I have been in close contact with someone who is asymptomatic. Nevertheless even that is speculation.

So I will just write to reassure you that I am fairly well and thank you for the contact some of you have made to send me your best wishes.

Please be reassured that the school is in very safe hands with Mr Burchett and the rest of the staff. I will return to school next Friday.

Safeguarding Focus

Follow the TALK checklist to help keep your child safe online (Internet Watch Foundation)

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) tells us that 'since the start of the pandemic, the amount of ‘self-generated’ child abuse imagery has increased dramatically. In 2020, the IWF confirmed 68,000 cases of such imagery, a rise of 77% on the year before. It accounts for nearly half (44%) the imagery we took action on last year. In 80% of these cases, the victims were 11- to 13-year-old girls.'

The IWF has created a resource to help parents and carers understand the risks of 'self-generated child sexual abuse imagery' using the acronym 'TALK'.
